Lucretia (Vance) was born in No. Dansville, NY, daughter of John and Margaret (Gray) Vance of PN and later No. Dansville, NY. She married Amory Gale Oliver there in 1856 and they moved to Marquette Cty, WI where a few of their children were born.

As a young mother with young children, in 1861 she and Amory travelled westward in an ox-drawn covered wagon, along with 30-40 other families, to Petaluma, CA. Their daughter Alma was born in the wagon, enroute. Amory purchased land in the township of Analy, CA where he raised cattle and grew fruit.

By 1876 Amory explored TX and purchased ranch land on Pool Branch near Strickling in Burnet Cty. By early 1877 a homestead was completed and Lucretia travelled by train and stage coach with their younger children to their new home. They raised sheep, cattle, fine horses and harvested grain crops. By 1900, with their children grown and owning ranches of their own in Burnet, Lucretia and Amory bought a Victorian home in Lampasas where they resided the rest of their lives.
