George Robert Burks was my grandfather. He was the son of Mastin Milton Burks and Martha Jane Sanders and grandson of Brinkley Burks and 1. Temperence Evans. He and his first wife, Melissa Jane Boyette, were the parents of Robert Albert, James Franklin, Gertie E., Roy R., Allie Lee, Floyd Chambers and Melvin B Burks. George and my grandmother, Martha Ellen "Mattie" Allen, were parents of *Charles Edward, Clyde Elwood, Jewel Odell (Clark, Cooper, Howard), Metta (Floyd), Lola Mae (Liles, Garber) and Wm. Melton Burks. The TX family lived on their 400 acre farm in Danville, Bienville Parish, LA, from 1919-1924, now called Burkplace. The original family home, where all of the children were born, was in Ben Wheeler, Van Zandt Co., Texas. George was a land owner, farmer and a McNess peddler. His siblings were Margaret (Jones, Hudson), Mastin Milton Jr., William Thomas, James Andrew, Mary Jane (Stephens) and Fannie Delia Burks (Lee).
