According to US Census records, Jens Severson Langlie was born in Norway in 1842. His father's name was listed as 'Segus' Langlie on the 1926 Death Certificate for Jens.

Jens married Anna Signadetter in about 1875, according to the US Census of 1900, which also says that they had seven children together, all of whom survived to adulthood. This means that one of the eight children raised by them was not born to Anna. It is unclear which.

Jens moved his wife and five children from Norway to the United States in 1880 and settled in Blooming Grove Township of Waseca County, MN. They are recorded there in 1885 under the name of 'James Severson'. Living with Jens and Annie were seven children: Albert, Angy, Annie, Segur, Thomas, Severt, and Annie.

By 1895, the family was residing in New Richland Township of Waseca County, MN, this time under the name of Jens Syverson. Their three oldest children had grown and moved out of the home. Living with Jens and Annie were their children Sigurd, Tolef, Sivert, Marie, and Henry.

'Child's History of Waseca County, MN', published in 1906, says: "Mr. [Albert] Jameson's father's name was JENS LONGLIE. He resided in this county a number of years, but moved to Steele county in 1896."

Indeed, the family of Jens Langlie can be found in the US Census of 1900 in Berlin Township of Steele County, MN, this time under the name of Jens 'Johnson'. With Jens and Anna were their children Segar, Thomas, Severt, Anna, and Henry.

In 1905, the family was still in Berlin Township of Steele County, MN, but Jens was now using the name 'James Langlie'. Only their three youngest children remained in the home of Jens and Anna: Severt, Anna M., and Henry.

Jens' wife Anna passed away in 1906. By the time of the 1910 US Census, he was found living in the home of his eldest daughter, Engeborg Alland, at Blooming Grove Township in Waseca County, MN. Engeborg was the widow of Thomas Alland. Jens was still living with his daughter at the time of the 1920 US Census.

Jens Langlie passed away at the age of 84 on December 14, 1926. He was buried at LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery in New Richland, Waseca County, MN.
