Funeral services for G. C. Benton, 66, of Rosenberg were held at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon Monday, from the Church of Christ in Rosenberg. Mr. Leon Lock officiated at the service, and burial was in the W.O.W. Cemetery in Rosenberg under the direction of the Garmany-Heartfield Funeral home.
Mr. Benton had been president of the Rosenberg National Farm Loan Association for the past 25 years, and had been a dirctor of this association for 30 years. He was with the National Farm Loan association and Federal Loan Bank of Houston for 30 years.
He was an expert in appraising farm property, and many Fort Bend county farm families are living here in the county now because Mr. Benton sold them their farms and arranged their loans for them. He believed that investment in land was the best investment in the world, and always had great faith and confidence in the future of Fort Bend county.
Mr. Benton was a member of the Rosenberg Lions Club and the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and was one of the organizers of the Fort Bend County Drainage District.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Bobb Benton; four daughers, Mrs. Doicy Grant, Mrs. Mildred Rude, Mrs. Jaunita Drake and Miss Katherine Benton, all of Rosenberg; three sons, Chester C. of El Campo; Arthur Lee and Ralph W. of Rosenberg; three sister, Mrs. Sallie Ellison of Rosenberg, Mrs. Hallie Stevens of Orange and Mrs. Tamar Benton of Corpus Christi, and eight brothers, Russell of Wallis, Frank and Neal of Needville, Butler and Elihu P. of Rosenberg, Gipson of Cleveland, Fred of El Campo and William of Dallas.

Grover Cleveland Benton, 66, prominent and widely-known Rosenberg realtor and businessman, passed away Sunday morining, January 11, at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital following an illness of slightly over two weeks. Mr. Benton became ill on Christmas Day, and all that medical skill and loving hands could do, was done to save his life.
A resident of Fort Bend County for 40 years, G. C. Benton figured prominently in the development of this area, and was without a doubt one of Rosenberg's most highly-respected persons.
Funeral services for Mr. Benton were held at the Church of Christ, in Rosenberg, Monday, January 12, at 8 p.m. with the pastor of the church, Leon Lock, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Roy E. Tomlinson. Interment was in the W.O.W. cemetery, Rosenberg, with Garmany-Heartfield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Benton was born on January 31, 1886 in Irving, Kentucky, the son of the laste William and Mary Benton, prominent pioneer citizens of that state. He was married to Miss Addie Bobb Ross, who was also a Kentuckian, reared in the same community with him, on December 24, 1905. They came to Texas in January, 1911 and have since resided in this community, where Mr. Benton and every member of his family have taken part in the continued growth and progress of Rosenberg and Fort Bend County.
