Charles Nealy Moberly was born in North Carolina. His parents are Levin Moberly and Nancy Tucker. He made his way from North Carolina to Indiana and there he married Susannah Epperson, Dec. 11, 1831 in Montgomery Co. There were 12 children born in this union, Sanford Cox Moberly, William Pedrow Moberly, Susan Margaret Moberly Durant, Nancy Ann Moberly, Charles Epperson Moberly, Richard H. Moberly, Mary Jane Moberly Bower, David Edley Moberly, John A. Moberly, Daniel Moberly, James Robert Moberly and Susan Amanda Moberly Mathis. Charles was with the expedition that completed the treaty with the Black Hawk Indians. He made the bread eaten at that parley, mixing it in his canoe and baking it on stone. The Black Hawk chief visited at the Moberly home frequently. It is said that Charles helped to survey the state of Iowa.
