Mr. Carpenter was born in Chester, Warren county, New York, and came to California with the gold-seekers in the early fifties. He lived for some time in Grass Valley and Nevada City, but finally settled in this county, locating in this city. He was married in Cherokee in 1870.
In the fall of 1891 he removed to Oroville.
Besides the widow, three sons – F.P. Carpenter of San Diego, Joseph Carpenter of Dulzura, and Ralph Carpenter of Oroville – and one daughter, Miss Margaret Carpenter of Oroville survive the deceased.
The funeral will be held this afternoon at 1 o’clock from the family residence in Oroville. The interment will be in the Chico cemetery, the funeral leaving Oroville on the 2:15 car.

The funeral of the late Alexander Carpenter, pioneer of Butte County, well known in Chico, was held yesterday afternoon. The body arrived in Chico from Oroville shortly after 3 o’clock yesterday over the Northern Electric and the funeral cortege was formed from the Northern Electric depot.
