From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren:

"He was born on January 16, 1836, and in 1866 married Matilda Hindman, a neighbor girl. They occupied the part of the old Minteer farm that Uncle Billy bought about the time of his marriage. They had seven children, three of whom died in one week with diphtheria and one who died the next year. Two of their names were Cora and Emmett."
-----------------------
In 1860 he was farming his portion of the Minteer farm that his father had gotten from HIS parents. He owned real property worth $4000. Living with him was his sister Mary, her husband Dick Smith, and their two children. His uncle John Minteer and his growing family lived on the adjoining portion.

In 1870 he lived with his wife and two daughters on his part of the "original Minteer" farm. He owned real property worth $4000 and personal property worth $3000.

In 1880 he, Matilda, Ella, James, and Charles lived there on their farm. Also living with them were housekeeper Aggie Ross, age 19, and farm worker James Dickey, age 20.

In 1900 he and Matilda and their three surviving children lived there in the same place.
