From a brief Minteer Family History written in 1953 by Ella B Minteer:

"Our home was a very happy place until an epidemic of diphtheria invaded it and took the oldest daughter, the oldest son and the youngest son, leaving just myself and brother Frank. It left mother in an invalided state for months, unable to do for herself, but she recovered. Afterward a son came to bless our home for but two years and death took him following an illness of scarlet fever. Later brother Warren came into the home to partly fill the gap left by those four children who had been taken in death by diphtheria and scarlet fever which left three out of seven, one girl and two boys, Ella B, Frank and Warren."
