From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren:

"William Minteer was born in 1808 and married Barbara Mellon. Uncle Billy was a quiet man and I do not know his early occupation. He owned part of the old homestead, and I think on his second marriage he bought the small farm at the north edge of Worthington. He always had money ready to loan so I think he must have taken the place of a bank to some extent. I have heard him say that he never lost a dollar on any loan he made. Barbara Mellon was a member of one of the early families of this section that had a reputation for their ability to get money and keep it."

"After his wife Barbara died he married Hannah Semple, daughter of the innkeeper in Worthington. They raised Mary and Dora Seaton, the orphaned daughters of the U.P. minister, and also Aunt Hannah's niece and nephew, Sade and John Summerville. Mary Seaton and Sade Summerville were two of my sister Evelyn's closest friends and I knew them as a child as though they were real cousins. John Summerville was one of the mainstays of the U.P. Church in Worthington as was his wife, Nannie Blainey. I would be glad had they been part of our family. Also, Sade married Isaiah Pontius and had three sons: Harry, a druggist in Columbus, Ohio; Charles, a doctor in Warren, Ohio; and Wesley who was president of the University of Tulsa the last I knew."
