Raymond G. "Ray" Walker, 76, of Sauk Centre died on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997 in St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre. Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. The Rev. Vincent Santo officiated. Internment followed at the Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Walker was born March 11, 1920 in Sauk Centre to Fred and Lila (Neal) Walker. He married Mabel Gail Benson on June 18, 1941 in Little Falls, Minn. He served in the U.S Army during World War II and later attended Purdue University. He owned and operated Main Street Chevrolet in Sauk Centre with his father and brothers and was later employed by the Sauk Centre Post Office. He served as the postmaster in West Union and Swanville and retired in 1985. He was a member of the First United Church-United Church of Christ, American Legion Post 67 where he was past commander and the Retired Postmasters Association. Ray had also served on the Sauk Centre City Council and was a former member of the Sauk Centre Lions Club.
Survivors include daughter, Kathleen Spanier and husband Steve, Edina; three grandchildren, Casey, Reggie and Abigail Spanier; a sister Vivian Bohne, Sauk Centre and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mabel Gail on Dec 26, 1985; sister and brothers, Shirley, Russell, Henry, Clifford and Charlie Walker.
Serving as casket bearers were Steve, Casey, Reggie and Abigail Spanier. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service, Sauk Centre.
