Funeral Services Held Monday For Russell H. Walker
Russell H. Walker, of Sauk Centre, died suddenly Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 1959, at the age of 40 years.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, Feb. 2, 1959, at two p.m., at the Methodist church, Rev. W. B. Plummer, pastor, officiating; Jack Kettlewell, soloist and Karen Snow, organist.
Pallbearers were Herb Reinardy, Ed Steffes, Art McDermond, Ed Peterson, Don Neal and Paul Neal.
Russell, H. Walker was born on July 13, 1918, on a farm near Sauk Centre. In 1919 he moved to Sauk Centre with his parents, where he grew to manhood and attended school. Following his graduation from Sauk Centre public school, he was associated in business with his father in the Main Street Chevrolet garage.
On January 1, 1942, Russell enlisted in the service. While stationed near Charlotte, North Carolina, he met Stella Hinshaw and on Oct. 9, 1943, they were married. After his discharge from the Army, at the end of the war in 1945, Russell, his wife, and little daughter, Marie, returned to Sauk Centre, where he again became associated with his father and brothers in the Chevrolet garage company. In August 1952, they moved from Sauk Centre and lived in the South until April, 1956, when they returned to Sauk Centre and he became associated with the Walker Furniture and Appliance company.
The deceased served as a member of the Sauk Centre fire department for several years, also as a member of the American Legion, the Charter Commission of the City of Sauk Centre and on other civic committees. He joined the First Methodist church in 1936 and was an active and faithful member until the time of his death, having served as a steward on the Official Board and an usher.
Russell is survived by his wife, Stella H., his sons, Jimmy and Billy. His mother, one sister and his daughter, Marie, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Walker [step-mother], five brothers, Ray, Henry, Clifford and Charlie of Sauk Centre, and Jack Kettlewell [step-brother] of Norwood Minn.; three sisters, Vivian (Mrs. Norman Bohne) of Sauk Centre, Margaret Hill [step-sister] of Pelican Rapids, and Janice Quelland [step-sister] of Waukegan, Ill.
Relatives from out of town attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Hinshaw, parents of Mrs. Russell Walker and her sister and brother-in-law B. B. Icard from Rutherford College, North Carolina; Mr. and Mrs. George Walker, St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Walker, Woodward, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. James Hill, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; and Jack Kettlewell, of Norwood, Minnesota.
