MRS. HELEN AYRES
LONG BRANCH -- Mrs. Helen Ayres, 85, died Saturday in the Ivy House Nursing home, Middletown. She was a resident here 45 years.
For 23 years, Mrs. Ayres was employed as matron of nurses in Hazard Memorial hospital. She retired in 1955.
Mrs. Ayres was born in Paterson, daughter of the late Robert and Agnes Spencer. She was the widow of Isaac Ayres.
Mrs. Ayres was a member of St. James Episcopal church and St. Martha's guild. She was the first president of the Mothers' circle, Order of DeMolay, and a life member of Long Branch chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Raymond F. Dodd of Belmar and Mrs. Carl Whitehurst of Long Branch; a son, Warren Ayres of West Long Branch; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday. Burial was in Woodbine cemetery.
