He was born June 2, 1927 in Franklin, Idaho to Ivan and Ordell Doney Woodward. During high school, he played basketball and also took Utah State College welding courses, where his precise welds are still on display.
He enlisted in the Navy in World War II; later drafted into the Army, serving in Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was an Eagle Scout.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served two missions: in New England without purse or scrip and with his wife in Crockett, Texas. He loved the Lord and served many years as a Stake Seventy. His passion was sharing the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
Married Marian Bagley in the Logan Temple on August 11, 1950, just reaching their sixtieth anniversary.
A general contractor, he built homes specializing in finish work, commercial buildings in Utah, LDS Churches and fabric stores in the USA and helped family and friends using his skills on various projects. He carefully tended and lived off his vegetable garden, canning his own grape juice, sharing with others.
Dee is survived by his wife, Marian; children, DeAnn (Kirt) Neal, Renee (Mark) Fasbender, Stan (Karen), Brent (Jill), Carol (Grant) Hockin, Ralph; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brothers-Clair, Jay, Lynn; sister-LuDean. Preceded in death by brother Darrell.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Big Cottonwood Fourteenth Ward Chapel, 2080 East 5165 South. Viewings will be held at the Church on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment at Elysian Burial Gardens with full military honors accorded.
