Darrell Doney Woodward, 77, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on September 11, 2009 from complicated medical problems.


He was born January 18, 1932 in Franklin, Idaho to Ivan Woodward and Ordell Mecham Doney, the fourth of six children.


He learned to work hard at a young age on the family farm. He graduated from Preston High School excelling in FFA and athletics. Darrell served in the New England States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1951-53. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55, stationed in California and Frankfurt, Germany. Darrell attended Utah State University and Idaho State University. He worked in various occupations including sales and the federal government.


Darrell married Elaine Vaterlaus on January 4, 1954 in the Logan LDS Temple and together they raised five children. They were later divorced. Married Jean Holdaway in 1994. (deceased). Darrell met his loving wife Nancy Greaves and they married on July 5, 1996. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on February 26, 2000.


He loved his family and one of his greatest pleasures was spending time with them. He enjoyed all sporting events, as a participant and spectator and especially liked watching his grandchildren's activities.


Among many of his talents, he was a gifted jack-of-all trades and could fix anything. He found joy in good music, gardening, and traveling. He was a people person who gave countless hours of service throughout his life. He was a faithful member of the LDS church enjoying many callings. His favorites were home teacher and providing Sacrament services at a local nursing home for many years.


Darrell is survived by his wife Nancy; children, Maren Erickson (Andrew), Kevin (Debbie), James (Velva), Sue Anderson (Daniel), Wendy Kiefer (Greg); Nancy's daughter, Susan Rainey (Russell); 28 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also survived by siblings DL, Clair, Jay, LuDean, Lynn, and a large extended family.


Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Millcreek Fourth Ward Chapel, 3130 East Craig Drive (3700 South), East Millcreek, Utah. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive (1495 East), and in the East Millcreek Fourth Ward Building on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 9:30 -10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery, Preston, Idaho, following a graveside service.
