He was born in Pinewood, Minn., on Oct. 27, 1927, the son of Walter Leroy and Florence (Gillette) Chesborough. He was one of nine children. He attended elementary school near Pinewood until the eighth grade. He was confirmed in 1943. LeRoy helped his father on the farm until his father died in 1944. He moved with his mother and younger sister to his grandparents' home in Girard Township, Otter Tail County, in 1947, and continued farming.
He was married to Inez Christiansen at the Vining Lutheran Church in September of 1953. The couple moved to St. Paul where he worked for Ace Steel Products for over 20 years, building passenger and freight elevators.
He formed a partnership with Don and Mailyn Holmstrom in a company known as Leroy, Inc. He worked there until his retirement in 1989.
He was active in Boy Scouts, the Sons of Norway, St. Timothy's Church in St. Paul and served on the church council at Vining Lutheran Church. Following his retirement the couple returned to Henning where he was always fixing and improving their home. He loved
to incorporate elevator parts into their home. "Something unique," he would say.
He enjoyed growing raspberries and gardening. His faith became stronger as his health deteriorated. He loved having family and friends around and was a warm and loving husband, father and friend.
