John S. Woods

John Sylvester Woods, 76, of 1103 W. Pratt Street, Starke, died Saturday in the Gainesville V.A. hospital after a long illness. Born in Live Oak on Jan. 8, 1893, he had lived in Starke for the past 12 yers. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of American Legion Post 46, and a Methodist. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving is his wife, Linnie Denmark Woods of Starke; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Perales, Starke, and Mrs. Estelle McCullers, Live Oak; nine sons, John of Lakeland; Allen, Lake Wales; Buck and Louis, both of Live Oak; Charlie and Albert, both of Lake City; Alfred, Travis and Tommy, all of Starke; one sister, Mrs. Nona Tyre, Greenville, 32 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Jones Memorial Chapel with Rev. Denton Sumrall conducting. Additional services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Pine Grove Methodist Church near Live Oak with Rev. Louis Berry officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Linnie Woods

Mrs. Linnie Woods, 84, of Starke, died Wednesday, March 19, at Bradford Hospital, following an extended illness.

Born in Hamilton County, Mrs. Woods moved to Suwannee where she was raised and moved to Bradford County in 1968 and has resided since.

Mrs. Woods was the daughter of the late Mark and Loraine Denmark, former pioneer residents of Suwannee County and the widow of the late John S. Woods. She was a member of the Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke.

Survivors include two daughters, Rose McConnell of Starke, and Estelle McCullers of Live Oak, nine sons, Travis, Thomas R., and Alfred Woods, all of Starke, John Woods of Lakeland, Allen Woods of Lake Wales, R.L. (Buck) and Louis, both of Live Oak, Charlie and Albert Woods of Lake City, one sister, Myrtle Copeland of Jacksonville, 38 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 21 at the Madison Street Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Gillis and Rev. Joe Craft officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Methodist Cemetery near White Springs, Florida with Archie Turner Funeral Home of Starke in charge of arrangements.

Alfred Martin Woods

Alfred Martin Woods of Starke died Wednesday at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville after an extended illness. He was 73.

Mr. Woods was a lifelong resident of Bradford County. He was a retired heavy-equipment operator for DuPont for 38 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Starke.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Singletary Woods of Starke; daughters Alice Hall of Starke and Sherry Cuddington of Lake Butler; a son, Greg Woods of Lake City; a sister, Rose Reddish of Starke; brothers Travis Woods of Starke, Albert Woods and Charlie Woods, both of Lake City, Louis Woods of Live Oak and Allen Woods of Lake Wales; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mary Estelle Foster McCullers

LAKE CITY - Mary Estelle Foster McCullers of Lake City died Wednesday at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City. She was 77.

Mrs. McCullers was born in Jacksonville and lived most of her life in Live Oak before moving to Lake City six years ago.

She was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Wellborn; and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wellborn.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Lynn Foster of Pensacola; a daughter, Betty Gilmer of Lake City; six brothers, Allen Woods of Lake Wales, Alfred Woods and Travis Woods, both of Starke, Charlie Woods and Albert Woods, both of Lake City, and Louis Woods of Live Oak; a sister, Rose McConnell of Starke; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
