Mrs. Elizabeth Sarazin, Delta County Pioneer, Dies at Home of Her Son in Princeton, Mich.
Mrs. Elizabeth Sarasin, aged 74, died at an early hour Friday morning at the home of her son, Louis Sarasin, at Princeton, Mich. Mrs. Sarasin was formerly Miss Elizabeth Howard and she with her two brothers, Calvin and Jefferson Howard, were the children of the first white settlers at Flat Rock, Mich. Seventy-six years ago the couple landed at Flat Rock and their father was the first white man to clear land for a farm on which the couple lived until their death. Their children lived there after the old couple had passed away and until a few years ago Mrs. Sarasin kept house at the old home for her two brothers.
Mrs. Sarasin was widely known especially among the old settlers.
She became a widow at the age of 32 and raised a family of seven children.
She became ill with heart trouble last April while living at the home of her daughter. She rallied from the first attack and was taken to the home of her son at Princeton where sshe died. She had been a patient for two months at the Gwinn hospital but had requested to be taken to her son's home to be near her children and grand children.
Mrs. Sarasin is survived by four sons and three daughters, George and Louis Sarasin of Princeton, Mich; Charles Sarasin of Rock, Mich.; Edward Sarasin of Flat Rock; Mrs. Wm. Rich, of Quinnesee, Mich.; Mrs. George Burns, of Hibbing, Minn,; and Mrs. Jesse Deiter, of this city; also two brothers, Calvin and Jefferson Howard, Luce County, forty-one grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body will arrive this evening via C. & N. W. Ry., and will be taken to the Allo Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at onepthirty o'clock. The Rev. R.C.G. Williams of the First M. E. church will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Lakeview cemetery.
