John W. "Bill" Sjolander,74, of Baytown, Texas passed away November 9, 1999 at a local hospice.

He was born March 24, 1925 in Baytown and lived in Baytown all his life.

He was a member of the area pioneer Sjolander family. He was one of the founding members and past president of the Baytown Youth Fair. He was a longtime rice farmer and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Earl Sjolander; brothers, George and Sam Curtis Sjolander; sisters, Lillie May Williamson and Winnie Rees and parents Sam Y. and Katherine McGar Sjolander.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Helmer "Bill" and Glenda Sjolander of Dayton, Texas and Harvey C. Sjolander of Baytown; brother Earl O. Sjolander of Rusk, Texas; sister, Margaret Darlington of Baytown; grandchildren Sherri and Charles Clark, Mark and Bridgett Sjolander, Mindy and Earl Badeaux, Sara Sjolander, Sam and Jessica Sjolander, Darren Sjolander, Dalton Sjolander and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Navarre Funeral Chapel with the Rev. V.R. Hylton officiating.

Burial will be at Cedarcrest Cemetery Cemetery, Baytown.

Pallbearers are Charles Clark, Eddie Badeaux, Martin Robertson, Mark Sjolander, Sam Sjolander and Darren Sjolander. Honorary pallbearers are W.I."Tex" Haltom and W.W."Homer" McKinney.

Arrangements are under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home, Baytown.
