In a book written by Josephine Minteer Dickinson, "The Minteers As I Have Known Them", refers to Rachel as "quite an unusual woman. She read Latin and Greek, having been educated in Philadelphia." After Thomas' death she is said to have travelled to Davenport, IA, to visit her sons John, Andrew (Mack) and Benjamine. Benjamine died before she arrived, and she died during her visit.

Rachel married the farmer Thomas Stevens Larimer about 1804. They had 13 children they named: Robert Stevens, Elizabeth C, Jane, Margaret G, Rachel, Mary, Eleanor "Ellen", Agnes "Aggie", John, Andrew Macune, Joseph, Benjamin Arundel "Ben" and Thomas Larimer.
