Barbara was born in Wells County, Indiana to George and Cathrine E Hunsinger Nusbaumer.

She had 10 siblings: John F, Elizabeth, Alpha Albertus, George Raymond, Clark, Phebe May, Willie, Veda Zella, Jessie Lee, Otto Chalmer, and Luella Ethel

She married 1st a Zacariah G Shufelt on April 5, 1898. They had one son - Norman Dewey Shufelt. Zacariah died in 1900 at the age of 30 and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findley, Handcock County, Ohio.

Barbara married 2nd to Frank Thomas Dukes on Feb 28, 1918. When Barbara died she was buried beside her son in an above ground vault in Stahl Cemetery in Wells County, Indiana.

"DUKES, Mrs. Barbara Ann, 82, services held last Thursday (July 29). Survived by
husband, Frank T.; three step-daughters; a step-son; a sister, Mrs. William
Roush; and three brothers, Ray, Albert and Jesse Nusbaumer. Stahl Cemetery,
Bluffton."
