Mrs. W. A. Nims Died Last Saturday Near Emerson
Was Pioneer Resident of County
Funeral in Emerson on Tuesday Afternoon
Mrs. William A. Nims, for more than half a century a resident ot Mills county, died at her home southwest ot Emerson Saturday, Sept. 8, after a brief illness.
She had been in very frail health the past year but had been much better ot late and had been able to be out and around among her friends with occasional visits to town which she seemed to enjoy very much, until her last sudden illness.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Emerson Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. L. E. Ripley, and were largely attended. Burial was in the Emerson cemetery.
Music was furnished by A. F. Smith. R. L. Fields, Mrs. Albert Edle, and Mrs, Ora Douglas, with Jessie Kellenbarger as accompanist.
The pall bearers were James Durbln, Ivan Salmons, Joe MeLain. Charles Vestal, Ed Peterson, and L, M. Kline.
The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Jessie Grayson and Mrs. A. F. Smith.
Martha E, Smith, daughter of Smiley and Susannah Smith, was born near Muncie, Indiana, Jan. 16, 1885.
She came with her parents to Iowa when a small child, to Jones county, where she grew to woman hood.
She was married. Nov. 27, 1873. to William A. Nims who preceded her in death a few years ago.
They came to Mills county in the fall of 1883 and located on the farm south of Emerson, which has been her home ever since, 52 years. Eight children were born to them. Three of them have preceded her in death, Eli, Mrs Myrtle Fritz, and Mrs. Elva Hall. The others are Mrs. Lena Moore, Woodbine, Mrs. Altha Norton, Imogene; Arthur W., Emerson, Mrs. Laura E. Hall, Emerson and Stella, who is in the old home.
She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and other relatives besides a host of friends who sincerely mourn the passing of this good woman.
when but a young girl she was converted and united with the Methodist Church in Jones county. when they came to Mills County she united with the Ashbury M. E. Church and when that was abandoned went to the Emerson Church.
She lived a consistent Christian life, beloved and respected by all who knew her.
