Arthur W. Nims, son of William A. and Martha Nims, was born in Mills County, Iowa, July 23, 1887, and died at Hand Community hospital, Shenandoah, on March 9, 1977.
On Febr. 8, 1912, he was united in marriage to Esther B. Liston of Emerson, after which they moved to a farm south of Emerson. They resided on the same farm until 1967, at which time they moved into Emerson. Mr. Nims moved to Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah in 1973, after the death of his wife.
Mr. Nims was a member of Champion Hill Presbyterian church, rural Emerson; a member of Humanity Lodge No. 378, A.F. & A.M., Emerson, having received his 50-year membership pin in 1962; and a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter, No. 121, Emerson.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Julia and James Sligar; a granddaughter and husband, Denise and David Tackett and one great grandson, Nathan Tackett, all of Shenandoah; a sister, Mrs. Althea Norton, Emerson; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Edith Liston, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Alta Snoop, Emerson.
Preceding him in death were his wife, two children who died in infancy, and one brother and five sisters.
Funeral rites were held Saturday, March 12, 1977, at 10:30 a.m. from Hackett Funeral Home, Shenandoah, conducted by the Rev. Raymond C. Lott, Jr., music was by Mrs. Margaret Woods, organist, and Keith Franzen, soloist. Floral tributes were cared for by Mrs. Frank Cole and Mrs. Harold Cooper, Emerson, and Mrs. Clyde Liston, Shenandoah, was at the guest register. Casket bearers were Gayle Eastwood, Stanley Williams, Horace Greenwood, Warner Watts, Marion Allen and Donald Eastwood, members of Humanity Lodge. Masonic services were conducted.
