James Franklin Jones, son of Isaac and Mary Jones was born Jan. 22, 1875, in Wapello county, Iowa, and departed this life Sept. 8, 1931, at his home in New Market, Iowa, at the age of 56 years, 7 months and 16 days.

At an early age he moved with his parents to a farm in Page county, later moving to Taylor county, where he spent his entire life as a farmer and stock buyer.

He became a member of the Methodist church at Pleasant Ridge at the age of 19.

He was united in marriage to May Younkin Oct. 9, 1895. To this union was born three daughters, Clarace, who died in infancy, Mrs. Eva Sparks of Conway, and Cordia at home.

He was a devoted husband and father, a kind and generous neighbor, always ready to lend a hand in time of need, and was honest and upright in all business transactions with his fellowmen.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, two daughers, Eva and Cordia, one son-in-law, Carl Sparks, five grandchildren to whom he was much devoted, Darwin, Doreen, Kenneth, Lelan and Marlan Sparks, his father Isaac Jones, six brothers, Newt and Wilber of New Market, Ray of Clarinda, Tom of Allerton, Bert of Des Moines, Alva of Erick, Oklahoma, and four sisters, Mrs. Clara Baker of Gravity, Mrs. Mrs. Minnie Knapp of Allerton, Iowa and Mrs. Rhoda O'Dell of New Market, and other relatives, besides a host of friends. His mother, one brother, Oliver, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Cooper, have preceded him in death.

His sister, Mrs. Minnie Knapp of Allerton, Iowa, was unable to attend the funeral on account of her own daughter having met with a car accident recently, suffering a badly injured arm.

The out of town relatives in attendance at the funeral were Mr. Tom Jones and son Howard, of Allerton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jones of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Luellen and son, Arland of Troy, Kansas; Mr. Alva Jones of Erick, Oklahoma; and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Knapp of Des Moines.

The out of town friends in attendance were Mr. E.J. Boston of Omaha, and Mr. Frank Morris of Woodward, Iowa.

The funeral was held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. E.B. Osborn, with burial in Memory cemetery.
