Sarah was born in the city of Derry, Ireland and moved to Lancaster, PA when she was 14 years old. For a time, she worked as a housekeeper for a local family. She married Bartram Gelzenlichter, son of Wilhelm(William) and Katherine Schaffner Gelzenlichter. They were married in St. Mary's Church, she a Catholic and Bartram a Lutheran. They had two daughters, Sara Catherine and Mary Agnes. They are both interred with their mother. Bartram, due to the fact that he wasn't Catholic, is buried with his parents in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lancaster, PA. He followed her in death, c. 1932.
