Fredrick E. Lincks was born in Niederbetschdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France on April 2, 1838. His eldest sister Mary Salome Lincks Hetrick was also born in Niederbetschdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France on May 22, 1836. Frerick E. was an infant when his parents emigrated to the States shortly after his birth (1838). Fredrick Lincks (the father) was naturalized in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania on 17 Oct 1856.

Fredrick became a circuit minister for the United Brethren Church and travelled around Franklin County etal., preaching. He went to St. Joseph's in Indiana with his wife Mary Oyler where his 1st 3 children were born. He moved to Canal Fulton where Mary's father had a farm and continued preaching as well as becoming a miner.
