Sgt. 1st Maryland Potomac Home Brigade Cavalry
Fireman for the B&O Railroad, Killed in a railroad accident.

Served in the war as a Sergeant in Coles' Cavalry, the 1st Maryland Potomac Home Brigade in Company B. Served throughout the war and was discharged in Harpers Ferry on June 28, 1865. He enlisted on April 9, 1861. Served as a private/sergeant.

Henry was born in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania son of the above parents. He was a blacksmith by trade and was around horses all his life since his father fought in the cavalry for the French in Napolean's Army and also served in the civil war in the 21st PA cavalry. Henry guarded the B&O railroad during the 1st 3 years of the war and ended up working for this railroad after the war. He met his wife Susie Blair while in the service.

He served in the war un-wounded and yet died on the railroad in an accident as a foreman boss on a rail crew.

Tombstone says died July 20, 1878, however, death record for Berkley County shows June 20, 1878.
