Joel Schaefer Dies at Age 81; Rites Friday
A resident of 419 West Ohio St., Joel Schaefer , 81, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday of respiratory arrest after being admitted to the Clinic Hospital at 11 a.m. that day.
Having been ill the past one and one-half years, he had been hospitalized at intervals over the past month.
A member of the Apostolic Christian Church, Mr. Schaefer retired 16 years ago from employment with the Indiana & Michigan Electric Co.
Born April 14, 1896 in Adams County, he was a son of Fred and Anna Miller Schaefer. A first marriage was to Lillie Schwartz, who died in 1943, and on Aug. 4, 1946 his marriage to Aldine E. Gilliom, who survives, took place in Bluffton.
Other survivors include three sons, Donald D. of Bellflower, Calif., Glen E. of LaMarida, Calif., and Rev. Gerald W. of Toledo, O.; three daughters, Mrs. Wilford (Mildred) Baumgartner and Mrs. Mary Jane Fosnaugh, both of Decatur, and Mrs. Charles (Rosella) Fravel of Geneva; a sister, Miss Elizabeth Schaefer of Vera Cruz, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Calling will be after 7 p.m. today at the Goodwin Memorial Chapel and until 12:30 p.m. Friday, at which time the body will be taken to the Apostolic Christian Church for services at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Orville Ringger and Rev. Carroll Gerber will officiate at the rites and burial will be in the church cemetery.
