Mrs. Sophronia Strine, 84 died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Corbett, at Monrovia Jan. 18, 1935. Mrs. Strine's maiden name was Sophronia Ann Sweetland. She was born Oct. 23, 1850, in Ashley, Ohio and married Jacob Strine at Waldo, Ohio in 1867. Mr. Strine was a wagon maker and they lived in Pennsylvania for a number of years when they moved to Nebraska, where Mr. Strine died in 1863. Following his death, she moved to Monrovia neighborhood where she bought a farm, now occupied by the Corbetts. This was her home until the death of her son Harry's wife, after which she kept house for him and his children.
Surviving besides her daughter, Mrs. Corbett, is a son, Harry Strine, of Muscotah, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Strine, one dying in infancy. The others, Alfred, John and Arch Strine.
Grandsons Wm Sharp, Owen and Earl Strine, Harry, Clyde, and Elling Olson, were the pallbearers, to the last resting place in the Monrovia Cemetery.
