George Law Stewart was born Sep 26 1854 in Oregon to Peter Grant and Rebecca R. (Cason) Stewart, who went over the Oregon Trail in 1843. He married Christina Holt. He was a firefighter for the city of Portland, where he died.

Pioneer Fireman is Dead
G.L. Stewart, Master Mechanic, in Service 18 Years
George Law Stewart, master mechanic of the Portland Fire Department and one of the city's veteran fire fighters, died last night at 6 o'clock at his home, 520 East Washington Street. Death resulted from a sudden attack of a complication of organic troubles, after an illness of a few days. Mr. Stewart was a work last Saturday and had experienced but a few days illness during 18 years of almost uninterrupted service. He was regarded by the heads of the department as one of its most efficient employees.
Mr. Stewart was 54 years of age and a native Oregonian, having been born in Oregon City in 1854. For the past 48 years, he has been a resident of Portland. He is well known to all the old time machinists in the city. For years prior to entering the fire department hew was an employee of the Willamette Iron Works and installed the machinery in the river steamer Hassalo. He was formerly the engineer of company No. 5 of the volunteer fire department, continued in that position when it was changed to a pay department and with the establishment of civil service control, became master mechanic.
Mr Stewart is survived by a widow and two sons, Paul, aged 16 years and David, aged 6 years. He also has two brothers and a sister living (sic). They are Mrs. D.B. Hanna(sic), Mrs. L. Perryman, and Charles S. Stewart, all of Tacoma, Wash. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been completed.
{Note: the sisters were Mrs. Dolph B. (Katherine Stewart) Hannah and Mrs. Lemuel (Margaret Stewart) Perryman. His widow, not named, was Christine/Christina "Crissie" (Holt) Stewart. -jr}

His widow married Frank A Wells, moved to San Francisco in 1912, and died 20 Sep 1945 in Santa Clara, CA.
Son Paul Grant Stewart was a auto mechanic, and died in Alameda, CA 8 June 1940.
Son David Law Stewart, b. Nov 28 1902, d. 22 Feb 1962 and is buried in Flagstaff, AZ.
