Charles Stewart, b. March 20, 1845 in Oregon, d. October 20, 1920, Bloomfield, Wa. Son of Peter G. and Rebecca (Cason) Stewart. Married October 26, 1873 to Mary Emeline Cooley, at the house of E.C. Cooley, Marion Co., Or. She was known in the Stewart family as "Aunt Shug", with shug pronounced as in sugar. Had children: Lida, Mamie, Maxwell, Charles Jr., Maude. Polk's Directories show Charles Stewart, watchmaker, living with PG Stewart , 1873-74. He is listed as a jeweler, watchmaker, optician, machinist, gunsmith in subsequent years, 1875-1886. There are no listings for him in Portland 1887-1900. He is listed in Tacoma Wa. in 1901 as a watchmaker, and in 1911 as a laborer. In 1903, his wife sent a postcard with their address in San Francisco. He is in the 1900 Tacoma census at 2202 So. G St., with wife Mary, son Maxwell and daughter Maud. It appears the family was in Vancouver, B.C., in 1913-14. Mary died September 18, 1913 in Vancouver.
