Henderson was born to William and Nancy Brown Caudle. He was their 7th son. His dad was a widower with 5 living children when he and Nancy married. Henderson after a while ended up with 14 siblings.
December 20, 1868 he married Samantha Ann Tutterow, in Davie County. To this union five children were born.
Henderson remained in North Carolina, although some of his brothers and sisters with their families all moved to Missoui after the Civil War.
For a few years they farmed in Davie County but by 1900 they were in Little Yadkin Township (West Bend), where they remained the rest of their lives.
Henderson lived to the age of 80.
