She writes: ''I was the 2nd child and a disappointment as my parents had hoped for a son. My grandfather was inconsolable so he gave me his name, "Henry", but I am called Hennie. I am small of statue and frail from childhood. Was educated in private school and Judson College, making a special study of art, had some training
in New York and Birmingham, Alabama. Taught art in high school and did portrait work - painted a portrait of Dr. Nathan Gross Bozeman, the son of Uncle Nathan. The years spent in New York stand out as the most important in my life.
I was not only cured of my illness but the association with Uncle Nathan was most improving and pleasant. Later it was my privilege to take care of Bozeman Rylance, uncle's only grandchild. The mother, Fannie Lamar Bozeman Rylance, died in London while on a vacation.
Bozeman Rylance was educated at Sewanee and spent his vacations with our family until he married at the age of 21 years. He married Bessie Bulger, the daughter of Thomas LaFayette Bulger, they were 3rd cousins.
The past few years I have not been strong enough for any activities but am enjoying life just the same I am a lover of nature. My hobby: fond of children and inclined to see the sunny side of life.
