Herald Journal, The (Logan, UT) - February 28, 2001 Deceased Name: Ruth Lofthouse Pulsipher Hunsaker NORTH LOGAN, Utah - Ruth Lofthouse Pulsipher Hunsaker of North Logan, Utah, died on Feb. 25, 2001, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, following an accident at her home. She was 77.
Born Jan. 4, 1924, in Avon, Utah, to Warren S. and Emma Lofthouse Pulsipher, Ruth graduated from South Cache High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College until World War II interrupted her education. During the war, she met Melvin J. Hunsaker, whom she married on Jan. 25, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. They made Provo their home for the next 42 years. Melvin died in 1984. Ruth moved to Phoenix in 1988, living there for 12 years until she returned to Cache Valley.
Ruth served in the WAC's from 1944 to 1946. While living in Provo, she volunteered with the Utah County Fair Board, the Downtown Merchants' Council and the PTA. She served as an election judge, with her home being the polling place for her district on several occasions.
Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, Genealogical Society, and scouting. She loved writing letters to her many friends after her move from Provo.
Ruth's skill at sewing was renowned across the Western United States. She had worked in management at fabric and clothing stores for a decade when she began her own business in 1974, specializing in custom dressmaking. Her evening gowns were worn in the Miss Utah and Miss America pageants. She did costuming work for many university and local groups and productions. Her wedding gowns won numerous ribbons at county and state fairs, including Grand Sweepstakes at the Utah State Fair. She also enjoyed producing original needlework for which she also received many honors, including a Utah State Fair Grand Sweepstakes Award.
Ruth was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to keep up with her interests and her children's careers. She also shared with her children an avid passion for reading.
She is survived by one daughter, Darlene (Frank) Ramsey, Richmond, Va.; five sons, Allen J. (Karen), Painted Post, N.Y., Stanley M. (Terri), American Fork, Utah, Scott I. (Rebecca), North Logan, Utah, Drew J. (Elizabeth), Phoenix, Ariz., Nathan L. (Julianne), Erie, Pa.; 34 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Arlene Hemsley, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and a brother, Ervin S. Pulsipher, Mulvane, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Thora.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Edgemont 3rd Ward Chapel, 350 E. 2950 North, Provo, Utah, under the direction of Walker Family Mortuary of Provo.
