Margaret Elizabeth was known as "Bess or Bett" to her family. Her father, Brigham Davies, had five children (Mary Ellen, Primrose, Josephine, Bertha and Ethel)from his first marriage to Primrose Lee. Primrose died in 1890. On June 30, 1891 Brigham married his widowed cousin, Elizabeth Griffith. She had two sons (William Jr. & Joseph Turner) from her previous marriage. This new marriage added five additional children to the family (Gilbert, Margaret "Bess", Blanche, Eva and Brigham Dewey).

Bess was the second child born to this new union. Her father had been called to serve a mission in England for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was born while he was in England and he returned home when she was one year old.

In her youth, Bess was known as a young woman with dark wavy hair, snappy dark eyes and a lighthearted, happy personality. To help make financial ends meet, her parents would board travelers going between Tooele and Salt Lake City. Because of the needs of a large family and traveling guest, Bess was always busy helping with the wash. That meant building fires for the wash kettles then the hand wash, rinse, ringing and drying of the clothes and bedding.

Bess left Lake Point and moved to Los Angeles to work with her older sister, Primrose. She spent the majority of her remaining life in Southern California. She met and married Raymond Freeman Guysi on September 23, 1918 in Los
Angeles, California. Togther, they had three children (Paul Freemen, Margaret Elizabeth and Mary Jean.)

The depression of the 1930's was difficult for their family. They lost their home to foreclosure while owing only about $100. But there was no money available to save their home. They rented the rest of their lives.

Bess had a lot of nervous energy. The family always joked that they needed to hold-on to their dinner plates because instead of sitting to eat dinner with her family, Bess was busy getting water running in the sink to start doing dishes.

Bess was an excellent housekeeper and cook, making delicious pastries and pies. She also loved listening to the radio program "Music and the Spoken Word" to hear the messages of Richard L. Evans and the sounds of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She also loved poetry and could recite many of her favorite poems.

In 1956, Bess was expecting a visit from her sister Eva's family. While they were enroute by train, they received a wire that Bess had suffered a stroke and died about 10 p.m. on July 17th. Instead of traveling to California for a fond reunion, they continued on to attend Bess's funeral.
