William later married Selma Amelia Jonsson on 23 December, 1921. This marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 8 June, 1922. Two children were born to this marriage; William Thomas Maxwell (1922-2000) and Alma Lois Elizabeth Maxwell (1925-1937).
William died 15 August, 1940 in Salt Lake City.
