REV. M. R. MITCHELL
Rev. M. R. Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell, was born March 12, 1843, at Lockridge, Jefferson county, Iowa, and departed this life Dec. 30, 1935, at Chariton, Iowa, at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 18 days.
He was united in marriage to M. Caroline Mead on Sept. 18, 1864, who preceded him in death 14 years ago. To this union eight children were born, four of whom preceded him in death, Iva Dell, John R., Addison and Nora. Those who survive are Marion Mitchell, Mrs. W. A. John, both of Lucas; Mrs. Grace Leeney, of San Bernardino, Calif.; and Mrs. Florence Garber, of Fairfield, 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He moved his family to Lucas county in the fall of 1894 and remained a resident of Lucas until August 1, 1934, at which time he was moved to Chariton and remained here until his death. He spent his entire life in Iowa and in the cause of Christ.
He united with the Christian Union church in the year 1899 and was a faithful member.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Lucas, Iowa, conducted by Rev. N. D. Gordon, of Indianola, and interment was in the Fry Hill cemetery.
