When about 17 yrs. old W.D. enlisted in the 19th &20th Calvary near the end of 1864 and fought in the battle at Selma Ala. with General Forrest until surrender of the Confederate Army in 1965. He was paroled in Jackson ,Tn.
married Nancy McMinn 23 Oct.1867 in Gibson Co.,Tn.
