Harriet (Hattie) McGuire was born in Sonoma County, California to Altemus and Margaret Campbell McGuire. In 1876, the family moved to Texas and Hattie married Albert Anderson (Andy) Feild on Christmas Day 1878, in Burnet County. They lived on a ranch in the Sage community and were the parents of four children; Albert Vernon (Al), Kate, Harry and Ira Feild.

Hattie McGuire Feild was a descendant of James McGuire, a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
