In Memory Of
Samuel Ray Lord
June 12, 1925 - June 13, 2015

Samuel Ray Lord of Dublin, Georgia passed peacefully away on July 13, 2015 after an extended illness. Mr. Lord was surrounded by family as he slipped away just one day after his 90th birthday celebration.
Mr. Lord was born in Laurens County on June 12, 1925. He was the 17th of 18 children and the youngest son of Dollie Victoria Nobles Lord and Robert Minton Lord. Ray was an avid reader, a lover of wood work, and an expert upholsterer. As a child, he loved "tinkering" and being a helper to his family and friends. These characteristics remained as he helped countless friends and family with numerous projects and most often the service was free of charge. He enjoyed the process and the end product but mostly the satisfaction of helping friends and family learn a new skill and complete a project. Mr. Lord was generous, kind, loyal, and loving. His friends and family remember him for his quick wit and ready smile. He was a widely known and respected man who was well loved. Many of the homes in Dublin and surrounding counties are furnished with furniture items made, recovered, or refinished by Mr. Lord.
Mr. Lord was a graduate of Dexter High School. He is a World War II Veteran who served in the Merchant Marines from 1944 -1947 and in the Army from 1948 to 1949. After the war, he served in the Army Reserve from 1949-1954.
Ray was a member of Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church in Cochran, Georgia where he often heard his brother, Ben Lord and his nephew, Rabun Lord share the gospel. Ray greatly enjoyed singing the old gospel songs with his favorite being Amazing Grace.
Mr. Lord is preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia Rosalind Bales Lord, his mother and father and fifteen brothers and sisters.
The service for Mr. Lord will be held at Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church on Hwy 26 in Cochran, Georgia, on Tuesday, June 16, at 2pm. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 1-2pm at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends and family make donations in Mr. Lord's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by calling 800-805-5856, donating online or through the mail. Mr. Lord loved children and children adored him. He would be honored to know that sick children were being cared for through a donation in his name. Contributions can also be made to Trail Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
Special thanks go to the kind caregivers at James Place Assisted Living and Serenity Hospice.
Mr. Samuel Ray Lord lived a full and meaningful life for 90 years. The world is a better place because of his love, his compassion, and his kindness. He will be greatly missed.
