Morganton, Lura Fisher Fish, age 90, formerly of Spring Creek, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center after a short period of declining health.
A native of Haywood County, she had lived in Morganton since 1997. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lizzie Russell Fisher. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd L. Fish, who died in 2005; a son-in-law, James Payne; a brother, Floyd Fisher; three sisters, Mary Mauck, Martha Benfield, and Hester Holland. Lura was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of Lusk Chapel.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Payne, of Morganton; three brothers, Daniel and Robert Fisher of Waynesville and Crawford Fisher of Nebo; two sisters, Minnie Fish of Waynesville and Hazel Mathis of Clyde; two grandchildren, Michael Payne and his wife, Sarah, and Ann Marie Samuelson and her husband, Rob; and two great-grandchildren, Ethany and Hannah Payne.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie Bradley, Reverend Elbert Deason, Reverend Lloyd Fish, and Owen Fish officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
