Floyd E. Fisher

Waynesville - Floyd Edwin Fisher, 85, of Waynesville and the Fines Creek community, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Lizzie Russell Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Coward Fisher; a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Fisher; a brother, Henry Fisher; and a sister, Hester Holland. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He loved the work of the church and served in many ways. He retired with 33 years of service with the Department of Agriculture and served as director of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Services in McDowell, Jackson and Haywood Counties. He began his career as a State Spot Checker and covered all of Western North Carolina. He loved to play golf at Iron Tree Golf Course, loved baseball and was very interested in the Blue Ridge Baseball Team and James. He also loved his garden and liked to fish and hunt.
He is survived by his son, Ray Fisher and his wife, Shelby, of Waynesville; grandson, Philip Fisher and his wife, Jann, of Waynesville; two great-grandchildren, Graham Reece and Peyton Rebecca of Waynesville; five sisters, Minnie Fish of Waynesville, Mary Mauck of Asheville, Laura Fish of Morganton, Hazel Mathis of Clyde and Martha Benfield of Lenoir; three brothers, Daniel and Robert Fisher of Waynesville and Crawford Fisher of Nebo. He is also survived by a life-long friend, classmate and roommate at Autumn Care, Nobel Arrington.
The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Fish, the Rev. Eddie Dietz and the Rev. T.E. Robinette officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the services. Pallbearers will be Ed Brown, Bill Hollingsworth, Taylor and Gene Russell, A.J. Plemmons and Robert Hyatt. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Allens Creek Baptist Church, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McBroom, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Constance and David Presnell.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church, 459 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786, Blue Ridge Ranger Baseball Team, 124 Glendale Drive, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to one's favorite charity.
