Marcellus "Moss" Cantrell was a mechanic and moved from Graham, Texas to Arizona in 1956. He attended Colston School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1943, training in San Diego and Shelton, Washington. He served in Hawaii, Guadalcanal, Samar and Philippines. He was discharged in 1945.
