John Andrew "Samuel" Pollard was a son of Naomi Pollard, and brother to Elonora, who died about 1914.

According to marriage records, John Andrew's first wife was Sarah Jane Whetstine. They were married 19 January, 1897. They had two children, Andrew Dewey born 19 October, 1899, and Mary Ethel, born 2 November, 1901. Andrew Dewey was listed as Solomon D. Pollard in the 1900 US Census, so he may have had 3 names, or they may have changed it later. Sallie Pollard died of tuberculosis before 1905.

On 8 January 1905, John Andrew married Sallie Brown. They had one child, but the baby died when it was about 3 months old. Apparently, he lost his wife soon after.

John Andrew married Clara Virginia Garrison 24 December, 1906. Their first child, John Carl, was born 24 October, 1907. Other children followed: Everette Elster; Ralph Columbus; a child who died in infancy; Pauline La Vaughn (married William Perry); Louise Causby (married Arey "Booge" Causby; Francis Clarine; Harold Hicks; Kenneth Wayne, and Clyde Emmette ("Sam").
