He was the fifth son of the late John Andrew "Sam" Pollard and Clara Garrison Pollard.
Wayne was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and wore his uniform proudly. He carried the flag of the United States of America with a sense of reverence and honor whenever he was asked to do so. He served American Legion Post 395 with the designation Commander Wayne Pollard, 10th Special-2nd Section, E.T.O. Navy Seabee.
Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine. He served his church in many ways:as a Sunday school superintendant, Sunday school teacher, deacon, deacon chairman, RA leader, and in any other way he was asked.
Wayne also served the town of Glen Alpine for over 40 years; he served as the mayor, acouncilman, on the Selective Service Board, as a charter member of the Glen Alpine Recreation Foundation, the Glen Alpine American Legion Post, in the Glen Alpine Fire Department.
Wayne worked in construction and maintenance until finally retiring from Western Piedmont Community College as superintendant of buildings and grounds.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years,; a son and a daughter, three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Everette, Ralph, Hicks, and Clyde ("Sam") Pollard; three sisters, Pauline Perry, Frances Clarine Pollard, and Louise Causby; a half-brother, Dewey Pollard; and a half-sister, Ethel Rains.
Wayne's life was tempered by a strong belief in God, and he extracted what he believed was the absolute truth of Christianity.
I leave you with the words Wayne gave me as his goal in life: "I want to help. I want to serve."
He did.
