He was born in Chalmers, Indiana on March 19, 1935. While growing up with four brothers and giving his mom gray hair, he played on the Chalmers basketball team, worked in the RCA factory, served in the Army for eight years and helped his brother with his family-run plumbing company, Banes Plumbing.
In 1966, he decided to move out west to Arizona where he would eventually meet and marry Myra, his loving wife of 37 years. Myra and "Bob" kept busy those 37 years while raising their eight children, owning Beall's Plumbing, and serving their Lord at North Phoenix Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
In their spare time, they enjoyed reading their Bible together, traveling, fishing and spending time with the family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Ruth (Miller) Banes Girton, his father, Harry Edwin Banes, his stepdad, John Girton and his brother, Stanley Banes.
He leaves behind his wife, Myra Banes; his three brothers, Paul (Betty), Don (Sophia) and George; his eight children, Steve, Mike (Mara), Rick, Brenda (Randy), Cyndi (Brian), Dale, Chris, and Jennifer (Vincent); and 20 ½ grandchildren who will miss fishing with their grandpa.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, June 15th at North Phoenix Baptist Church. The visitation and viewing will be at 9 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 West Van Buren Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley Coronado Home, 340 East Coronado Road, Phoenix, AZ 85004 or North Phoenix Baptist Church, 5757 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012.
