Thelma Ruth Banes Girton, 70,
of Chalmers, died Tuesday, October
21, 1980, at 4:06 p.m. She was dead
on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital,
Lafayette, and had been in failing
health the past two years.
Born March 12, 1910, at Corydon,
she was the daughter of
William Charles and Mary
Elizabeth Allen Miller. Her first
marriage was to Harry Banes, who
died in 1941. She was married to
John W. Girton at Chalmers in
1950.
Surviving with the husband are
five sons, Stanley Eugene Banes and
Paul L. Banes, both of Monticello,
Robert Leroy Banes and George
William Banes, both of Phoenix,
Ariz., and Donald Edward Banes of
Chalmers; two step children, Phillip
Girton and Mrs. Lloyd (Nancy)
Cripe, both of Delphi; one sister,
Edna Lucille Spear of Chalmers;
one brother, Charles William Miller
of Chalmers; 25 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.
One brother preceded her in
death.
Friends may call at the Hartzler
Funeral Home, Brookston, Thursday
from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral
services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in
Chalmers Community Church
where she was a member. The body
will lie in state one hour prior to services.
The Rev. Kenneth H. Ewing
will officiate and burial will be in
Chalmers Community Cemetery.
