Paul L. Banes, 85, of Monticello, passed away at his residence.

He was born on August 9, 1933 in Chalmers to the late Harry and Ruth (Miller) Banes. On September 10, 1954 he married the former Betty Eggan in Chalmers and she preceded him in death on January 4, 2013.

Paul was a graduate of Chalmers High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard during Vietnam. He worked as a furniture refinisher for more than 33 years for RCA and also in his own business.

He was a member of the Monticello Christian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in Bible studies.

He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, walking his dog, traveling and refinishing furniture.

Paul is survived by one son; one daughter; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two stepsiblings.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, John Girton; and four brothers, Stanley, Donald, Robert and George Banes.

Visitation will be on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 4 PM until 8 PM at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello and also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Funeral services celebrating Paul's life will be at 11 AM on Monday at Monticello Christian Church with Pastor Chris Dodson and Elder Larry Crabb officiating.

Military rites will be rendered at the church Monday by the Monticello Funeral Honor Guard.

Private burial will be in Chalmers Cemetery.
