Sherman J. Stevens,88, a resident of Woodland Nursing Home, died Wednesday in Ball Memorial Hospital.
A native of Muncie, he was the son of John and Gertrude Carpenter Stevens. He attended local schools and was in the Army during World War II. After the war he returned to Muncie and worked for Ball Brothers (now Ball Corp.) until retiring in 1965.
Survivors include six daughters, Margaret Lindley, Shreveport, La., Betty Meeks, Mildred Stevens, Ethel Wright and Barbara Kiser, all of Muncie, and Wanda Davis, Red Bluff, Calif.; five sons, Arthur Stevens, Richmond, Sherman Stevens Jr., Herbert Stevens and Brian Stevens, all of Muncie, and Michael Stevens, serving with the Army; two sisters, Arvada Shrieves and Dorothy Crump, both of Muncie; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Meeks Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling is 4-8 p.m. today at the mortuary.
