Mrs. G. W. Alcorn Funeral Rites Held:
Mrs. Josephine Garner Alcorn, 92, died Thursday March 11 at her home on N. Washington Ave. after a
prolonged illness.
Mrs. Alcorn was a member of the Methodist Church and was the daughter of John H. and Sarah Garner.
She was born near Buffalo Valley and lived in Putnam County all her life.
Her husband, G. W. Alcorn, known throughout the county as "General" was sheriff of Putnam County for 16 years. He died in 1936.
Mrs. Alcorn was the mother of a large, fine family. Her home was her throne. She kept a very interested and active mind and held a profound interest in local and world affairs. Flowers gathered from her garden have been a source of joy to many throughout the years.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the First Methodist Church. The Rev. Bruce Strother, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the City Cemetery. Whitson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are 2 sons, Felix Alcorn, Holbrook, AZ, Robert Alcorn, Chattahoochee, FL; 4 daughters, Mrs. F. D. Bly, Pasadena, CA, Mrs. C. N. Gracey, Mrs. Fred Luck, and Miss Bessie Alcorn, all of Cookeville; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
