Prominent Putnam Countian Dies:

G. W. "General" Alcorn, 74, Marshal of the Tennessee Court under the late chief justice Mr. Landsen, died June 22, 1935 at his home in Cookeville following a stroke of paralysis some months ago.

"General" Alcorn was one of Putnam County's most prominent citizens and had served almost continuously in one capacity or another as an officer of the law since 1928. He enjoyed a wide acquaintance and prominent family connection among whom was the late F. P. McGinness, a half-brother, of Carthage.

Burial was made with Masonic honors, after services had been held by Rev. Dean Stroud and Rev. Dow A. Ensor.

General Alcorn Well Known Citizen Dies Saturday:

Held the Office of Sheriff of Putnam County for 8 years, was Supreme Marshal.

G. W. Alcorn died Saturday at his home in this city following another paralytic stroke. George Washington Alcorn was born in Buffalo Valley. He was the son of Esq. Robert S. Alcorn. Nicknamed "General" because of his name. He married Miss Josephine Garner and they had 7 children, Mrs. Lela Gracey of Cookeville, Mrs. Mamie Watson, Mrs. Georgia Bly, Miss Bessie Alcorn and Felix Alcorn, all of Williams, AZ, Mrs. Willis Luck of Watertown and Robert L. Alcorn of Panama City, FL, and 2 brothers, R. L. Alcron and A. V. Alcorn of Buffalo Valley. Funeral at family residence on Washington Ave. Burial in City Cemetery.
